Generators

A discrete group is generated by a (non-unique) subset of its elements if each element of the group can be written as

• the product of elements from the subset and their inverses,
• with positive powers,
• in any which order.

The subset, of minimal order, is called the generator subset. Its elements are the generators of the entire group.
